Traditional baths are made of metal or cast iron and these can definitely be reglazed. The newer tubs today are made of fiberglass or acrylic which most people think is plastic.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But do not resurface any baths made of acrylic or fiberglass if you have any of the following problems.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><b>The foundation is not solid<\/b><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You should never refinish the bath if the foundation isn\u2019t solid. If you hear a lot of cracking noises at the bottom of your bath then this is a possible sign that the foundation is weak.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When the original contractor installed the tub they may not have installed it properly. If you paint a bath with a weak foundation, the paint may crack eventually and you will be left with the same problem.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><b>You have a big hole that goes through the tub<\/b><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Never refinish a tub that has a large hole. There are ways to seal and close the hole using fiberglass material. One possible problem you may encounter is water infiltration. This can cause mold. It may also create water buildup below without you even knowing this. We recommend you replace the tub completely.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><b>How to resurface an acrylic or fiberglass tub?<\/b><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once you have determined that you don\u2019t have any of the problems mentioned above then you can proceed to refinishing your bath. Here\u2019s what you\u2019ll need to do:<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><b>Prepare the bath:<\/b><\/p>\r\n<ol>\r\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Remove drain overflow.<\/span><\/li>\r\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Completely remove any old caulking around the tub. Paint will not properly stick to caulking.<\/span><\/li>\r\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Using an 80 grit sandpaper, sand the entire tub. Inside and out. This will help the bath paint to adhere to the surface of the bath.<\/span><\/li>\r\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Use a degreaser to clean the bath.<\/span><\/li>\r\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dry the tub completely.<\/span><\/li>\r\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Protect around the bath so you don\u2019t get paint on the tiles or the floor. Cover the drain overflow and drain with tape.<\/span><\/li>\r\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Paint the tub.<\/span><\/li>\r\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wait 2 days.<\/span><\/li>\r\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Re-install the drain overflow and apply new caulking around the tub.<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ol>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section]\r\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cette baignoire que vous croyez \u00eatre faite de plastique est plut\u00f4t en fibre de verre ou en acrylique et, oui, vous pouvez la r\u00e9\u00e9mailer.
